Our Story
Diamond Exchange first opened its doors in 1982 at the Allandale Marketplace on West Stone Drive in Kingsport, TN with owners, Kimber and Dorothy Frederick. A second location was opened in 1991 at 1757 Fort Henry Drive. In October of 2002, Diamond Exchange moved its Allandale store to the Jennings Farm Shopping Center on West Stone Drive. In October 2006, the Fort Henry Drive location of Diamond Exchange moved into a newly renovated building at 1901 Fort Henry Drive. The City of Kingsport honored Diamond Exchange in 2007 with its Beautification Award for this new store. Most recently, in July 2012, we consolidated our stores at the spacious 1901 Fort Henry Drive location. More than once, Diamond Exchange has been voted “Best Jeweler” in the Kingsport Times-News Readers Choice Awards by its customers. Diamond Exchange strives to provide friendly, professional service in addition to carrying a wide selection of diamond and karat gold jewelry. Varying price ranges are offered to meet different customer needs. In April 2020 while closed due to Covid 19, Billy Mowell lead the beginning of a new ecommerce store, jewelrywithelegance.com, giving Diamond Exchange’s customers and new customers an avenue to continue to shop with Diamond Exchange. In early 2021, we announced that J. Billy Mowell Jr. would be taking the lead of Diamond Exchange as Kimber and Dorothy Frederick would be retiring to spend more time enjoying their growing grandchildren in California.

With more than 30 years of experience in the jewelry industry, J. Billy Mowell Jr. has been an integral part of Diamond Exchange since 1992. A graduate of East Tennessee State University College of Business, he served as General Manager from 1995 to 2021 and has helped guide countless customers through important jewelry and diamond purchases.
Billy holds GIA certifications in Diamonds and Diamond Grading, Diamond Essentials, Jewelry Essentials, and Gemstone Essentials, and has earned the Applied Jewelry Professional (AJP) Diploma. His extensive knowledge, industry experience, and dedication to exceptional customer service have made him a trusted resource for clients throughout the region.
